Brand profile

Pedialyte

Pedialyte is an oral rehydration brand made by Abbott, whose Abbott Nutrition business lists its address in Columbus, Ohio. The brand dates to 1966, when it was first supplied to hospitals, and consumer sales followed in 1969. The range now spans classic, AdvancedCare Plus, Sport, Fast Hydration and Immune Support formulas in ready-to-drink bottles, powder packets and freezer pops, plus a zero-sugar electrolyte water. Abbott markets Pedialyte as the No. 1 pediatrician- and pharmacist-recommended hydration brand.

Testing & quality

Abbott calls Pedialyte medical-grade hydration and labels its classic products for use under medical supervision. We found no NSF, Informed Choice or Informed Sport listing for Pedialyte products. A 2022 Class III FDA recall (now terminated) covered one lot of 0.6 oz Strawberry Lemonade powder packets made with undeclared wheat-derived dextrose.
