ZBiotics
Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink
A genetically engineered probiotic shot that breaks down acetaldehyde in lab tests, but at $9 to $12 a bottle it has no published human trials behind it.
Brand profile
ZBiotics Company is a San Francisco startup founded in 2016 by microbiologist Zack Abbott, PhD, its CEO, with co-founder and COO Stephen Lamb. It develops genetically engineered probiotics in its own lab; Pre-Alcohol was its first product, followed by a Sugar-to-Fiber drink mix. In 2024 it raised a $12 million Series A led by Spring Tide Capital and said it had sold more than 5 million units. Its products are sold as foods rather than dietary supplements.

Testing & quality
ZBiotics publishes batch-release specifications (enzyme activity, spore viability, DNA-sequencing purity, microbial contaminants and heavy metals) and labels the product third-party tested, but names no lab or certification program and posts no lot certificates. It says products are made in an FDA-registered food facility under food GMPs.
