Pros and cons

Liquid Morning Multivitamin

  • Liquid format with age-based dosing from 1 year up
  • Active B-vitamin forms: methylfolate and methylcobalamin
  • Clean Label Project Certified; vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free
  • 800 IU vitamin D3 and 100% DV vitamin C per adult dose
  • Almost no minerals: no iron, iodine, calcium, magnesium or selenium, and only 1 mg zinc
  • Proprietary BCAA blend and unquantified sea-water trace minerals
  • About $1.06 per day, and it must be refrigerated and used within six months of opening
  • Divisive taste, and some users need a smaller dose to avoid stomach upset

Essential for Women 18+

  • USP Verified and Non-GMO Project Verified, with suppliers and manufacturing sites disclosed for each ingredient
  • 330 mg of vegan DHA from algae, rare in a multivitamin
  • Active forms: methylfolate, methylcobalamin, ferrous bisglycinate and vitamin K2 as MK-7
  • A published randomized trial showed higher vitamin D, folate and omega-3 blood levels after 12 weeks
  • Only nine nutrients: no iodine, zinc, selenium, vitamin A, C or B6
  • About $1.10 to $1.25 per day, expensive for the nutrient count
  • Fishy burps and aftertaste are a recurring complaint despite the scent tab
  • 8 mg of iron is under half the RDA for women 19 to 50, yet unnecessary for women who don't need iron

Our verdicts

Liquid Morning Multivitamin

MaryRuth's Liquid Morning Multivitamin is a sensible choice for people who genuinely can't or won't swallow pills, and its vitamin forms are well chosen. As a multivitamin it is incomplete, with almost no minerals, a proprietary blend and a price above many complete tablets. Its TikTok fame reflects the format and flavor more than the formula.

Essential for Women 18+

Ritual's traceability and USP verification are genuinely best in class, and its own trial shows the vitamin D, folate and DHA doses raise blood levels. But at $33 or more a month you get nine nutrients, with no iodine or zinc and under half the iron most menstruating women need. It works better as a convenient vitamin D plus DHA supplement than as a complete multivitamin.
