Our verdict
Alani Nu Pre-Workout is a pleasant, moderate-stimulant option for beginners and casual lifters who care most about taste. Its caffeine-theanine combination works, but beta-alanine and tyrosine are under-dosed and there is no third-party certification, so serious lifters and tested athletes can do better.

Alani Nu's Pre-Workout comes from the flavor-first wellness brand founded by fitness influencer Katy Hearn in 2018. The formula is deliberately simple: each 10 g scoop contains 200 mg of caffeine from coffee beans, 200 mg of L-theanine, 6 g of citrulline malate (2:1), 1.6 g of beta-alanine and 500 mg of L-tyrosine, plus 150 mg of sodium and no sugar. The label is fully disclosed, and Alani markets the product as vegan and gluten-free.
The 1:1 caffeine and theanine pairing is the strongest part of the formula. Caffeine at 200 mg is a moderate, effective dose, and theanine may take the edge off the jittery feeling many first-time users dislike. Citrulline malate at 6 g sits at the low end of the 6–8 g range studied for blood flow and training volume (about 4 g of pure citrulline). Beta-alanine at 1.6 g is half of the 3.2 g daily minimum linked to endurance benefits, and 500 mg of tyrosine is a modest amount, so this is best viewed as an energy-focused pre-workout with a light pump component.
Where Alani Nu shines is taste and approachability. Its candy- and dessert-inspired flavors, led by Hawaiian Shaved Ice, draw consistent praise from buyers and TikTok creators, and the small scoop mixes easily. At $39.99 for 30 servings on Alani's site, and often less, it is reasonably priced. We could not find a third-party certification or published lab results, so drug-tested athletes should look elsewhere.
